Draft Scouting Report
Graham Mertz is a stable Day 3 quarterback option. He has a lot of experience at the collegiate level despite a history of injuries. He does a good job leading pass-catchers in the short to intermediate, but that anticipation wanes deeper down the field. Mertz shows good pocket awareness, but struggles to identify extra defenders in zone coverage.
- 2020-22 (at Wisconsin): 32 starts over three seasons
- 2023 (at Florida): Ranked third in the FBS with 72.9 completion percentage; set school record with 239 passes without an interception
- Good job leading receivers in the short- to-intermediate areas
- Throws with touch
- Good size
- Good pocket awareness and enough foot quickness to scramble when the play breaks down
- Below-average anticipation downfield
- Struggles identifying lurking zone defenders
- Injury history

Texans' Graham Mertz: Joins Houston in sixth round
The Texans selected Mertz in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 197th overall.
At one time, Mertz was considered a major quarterback prospect. He enrolled at Wisconsin as one of the top-rated quarterbacks in his recruiting class. Mertz never quite matched the hype in Madison, though, and transferred to Florida. He posted a 20:3 TD:INT in his first season at Florida in 2023 and had his final season cut short by an injury after five games. Given that he's a sixth-round pick going to Houston, Mertz projects as the QB3 behind C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills, at best.
