Top Lucas Giolito News

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Dominant in victory

Giolito (3-1) earned the win over Seattle on Monday, allowing three hits and issuing one walk while striking out 10 batters over six scoreless innings.

This was arguably Giolito's finest start of the campaign, as he racked up a season-high 10 punchouts and tied a season low in allowing three hits. The veteran righty didn't surrender any extra-base hits and missed plenty of bats with 18 swinging strikes. Giolito has had three bad blowouts during which he's yielded six or more runs, but he's also allowed one run or fewer five times in nine total starts. He's given up just one run -- which was unearned -- and six hits across 12 frames over his past two appearances, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to be a road matchup in San Francisco.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Bounces back with quality start

Giolito (2-1) got the win Tuesday over the Rays, allowing one run (zero earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings.

Giolito bounced back from one of his worst starts of the season with one of his best. He finished with a season-high 13 whiffs, and his velocity was up a couple of ticks. It's been quite the up-and-down campaign for Giolito, as he's had three starts allowing six runs or more while also posting four outings allowing one run or zero. He's lined up to take the mound again next week against Seattle.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Chased early in no-decision

Giolito didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 11-9 win over the Angels, coughing up seven runs on eight hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. He struck out one.

Six of the eight hits off Giolito went for extra bases, as the Halos put plenty of balls off -- or in Taylor Ward's case, over -- the Green Monster. It was the shortest outing of the season for the right-hander, with the seven runs allowed being a season high, and Giolito saw his ERA balloon from 4.78 to 6.42 as a result. He'll try to shake it off ahead of his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rays.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Decent results in no-decision

Giolito didn't factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta after allowing one run on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out three.

It was a respectable performance from Giolito, who kept the ball in the yard and didn't surrender any extra-base hits. The veteran right-hander has given up six runs on a pair of occasions this season, which has considerably damaged his ratios, and he's reached the fifth inning in just three of his first six appearances while posting quality starts in the other three. Giolito has a 4.78 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB over 32 innings, and he shapes up as a volatile fantasy option versus the Angels in his next scheduled outing.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Bounces back with quality start

Giolito finished with a no-decision in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Baltimore, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings.

All six of the hits Giolito served up were singles, and the right-hander didn't let any runner reach third base. The veteran hurler completed seven frames for the first time this season and picked up his third quality start through five appearances. Giolito has alternated good and bad outings so far -- the quality starts have come in his first, third, and fifth appearances while he allowed a combined 12 runs over 7.2 frames in his second and fourth starts. He'll look to snap that trend the next time he takes the mound, which is lined up to be a road matchup in Atlanta.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Start postponed again

Giolito won't pitch Friday, as the second game of Boston's doubleheader against the Orioles has been postponed due to rain.

Originally scheduled to pitch Thursday, Giolito will now presumably look to take the mound during Saturday's doubleheader after having his start rained out on back-to-back days. The 30-year-old righty will be looking to get back on track after posting a 7.08 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 20.1 innings across his first four starts.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Orioles-Red Sox game rained out

Giolito will not pitch Thursday after Boston's game against Baltimore was postponed due to inclement weather.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Serves up three homers Saturday

Giolito tossed four innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three batters in a no-decision against Atlanta on Saturday.

Giolito gave up a trio of homers in the outing, including two in the first inning. The right-hander needed 87 pitches to get through four frames, and he yielded six runs for the second time in four starts since returning from the injured list to make his season debut April 30. Giolito looked like he had shaken off the rust in his previous start, when he allowed just one run over 6.2 frames in a victory over the Royals, but Saturday's poor performance was a step backward. He now holds a 7.08 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB through 20.1 innings on the campaign.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Earns first win

Giolito (1-1) earned the win against the Royals on Sunday, allowing one unearned run on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 6.2 innings.

Giolito threw 59 of 88 pitches for strikes and yielded just one unearned run, which came on his own throwing error in the third inning. The 30-year-old has now delivered two quality starts in three outings and rebounded nicely from Tuesday's six-run loss. He'll carry a 4.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB across 16.1 innings into a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Roughed up by Rangers

Giolito (0-1) yielded six runs on 10 hits and a walk over 3.2 innings Tuesday, striking out two and taking a loss against Texas.

Giolito gave up just one run through three innings before the Rangers piled on five runs in the fourth. It was a big step back after producing a quality start with seven strikeouts in his season debut. Giolito threw 49 of 74 pitches for strikes and forced only six whiffs. He'll carry an 8.38 ERA into his next matchup, which is lined up to be in Kansas City this weekend.
