  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Idle against southpaw

Lux is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. With southpaw Austin Gomber on the mound for Colorado, the left-handed-hitting Lux will take a seat after he started in each of the Reds' last seven games. Lux will give up his spot in the lineup to Santiago Espinal, who starts at third base while Noelvi Marte serves as the Reds' designated hitter.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Sitting against another lefty

Lux is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. The Yankees are sending a lefty (Max Fried) to the hill for the second day in a row, so the left-handed-hitting Lux will once again take a seat. With Lux on the bench, Santiago Espinal will get the nod at third base and will bat ninth.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Swats homer in loss

Lux went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 12-5 loss to the Twins. The Twins raced out to a 7-2 lead by the third inning, but Lux responded with a two-run blast in the bottom of the inning. It was his third home run of the season and second during the month of June. He served as the designated hitter Thursday but has also received starts at left field (27), second base (nine) and third base (four). That versatility should serve Lux well when Cincinnati's injured players -- Austin Hays (foot), Noelvi Marte (oblique) and Jeimer Candelario (back) -- are ready to return.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Taking seat against lefty

Lux is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. With lefty Logan Allen on the bump for Cleveland, Lux will take a seat for the series finale along with fellow left-handed hitters Will Benson and Jake Fraley. Lux had started at designated hitter in each of the Reds' last four games, going 4-for-18 with a home run and five RBI.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Smacks grand slam

Lux went 1-for-5 with a grand slam in Saturday's 13-1 win over the Diamondbacks. Lux gave the Reds a commanding 10-1 lead in the fourth inning, when he took Kendall Graveman deep to right field for a 351-foot grand slam. It was Lux's second home run of the season and first since April 21 against the Marlins. He is slashing .283/.374/.401 with one steal and 26 RBI across 187 plate appearances this season.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: On bench Friday

Lux is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks. Lux will take a seat Friday against southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez. Garrett Hampson will play second base while Spencer Steer patrols left field.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Taking seat Wednesday

Lux is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. Left-hander DL Hall is opening the game for the Brewers, so the lefty-hitting Lux will begin the contest on the bench but could be a candidate to enter the contest once Milwaukee turns the ball over to right-handed bulk reliever Quinn Priester. Lux had started in each of the Reds' previous five games, going 4-for-15 with three walks and an RBI.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Enters for injured teammate

Lux entered Wednesday's game as a pinch hitter for an injured Austin Hays (foot) and went 0-for-1. Lux remained in the game at designated hitter and should be used to filling in for Hays now. Lux served as the primary left fielder during Hays' two previous stays on the injured list in 2025.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Starts at third base

Lux started at third base and went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 7-4 win over the Royals. Lux plated a run with a single in the third inning and came in ahead of Tyler Stephenson's home run two innings later. It was Lux's second start of the season at the hot corner, which had been occupied primarily by Santiago Espinal since Noelvi Marte (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list. It's unclear if Lux will be the primary fill-in going forward, but Espinal (.169, one RBI in the last 17 games) has hit a rough patch lately.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Taking seat against lefty

Lux is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh. It's southpaw Bailey Falter on the bump for the Pirates, so the left-handed-hitting Lux will begin the contest on the bench. Austin Hays is in left field and Tyler Stephenson is in the designated hitter spot for the Reds.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Hitless in return

Lux started in left field and went 0-for-3 in Sunday's 3-1 win over Cleveland. Lux was back in the lineup after missing Saturday's game with lower-back spasms. He and Austin Hays are sharing left field and DH duties for now. When one starts in left, the other is the designated hitter, although Lux is typically held back whenever the Reds face a left-hander.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Back in lineup Sunday

Lux (back) is starting in left field and batting fifth Sunday versus Cleveland. Lux was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup due to lower-back spasms, but the issue appears to have resolved. Will Benson shifted to left field Saturday in Lux's stead, but Benson is starting in right field Sunday. Meanwhile, Rece Hinds -- who got a start Saturday -- isn't in Sunday's lineup.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Scratched with back spasms

Lux was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus Cleveland due to lower-back spasms, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. It's currently unknown if Lux's back will cause him to miss additional time beyond Saturday, but the Reds may provide more details in the near future. In the meantime, Will Benson will shift to left field to cover for Lux, opening a spot in right for Rece Hinds.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Bats leadoff Wednesday

Lux replaced the injured TJ Friedl (wrist) as the leadoff batter and went 2-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the White Sox. Friedl was unavailable following a bone bruise he suffered during Tuesday's game. This was Lux's first time batting atop the order; he typically bats fourth or fifth. The double was Lux's 10th of the season, tying him for team high with Jose Trevino.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Records two hits, RBI in win

Lux went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Atlanta. Lux had a run-producing groundout in the first inning then scored the eventual game-winning run after a fourth-inning single. The two-hit game is a welcome sign for Lux, who entered Wednesday on a 1-for-21 stretch over the previous six contests. Cincinnati is dealing with multiple injuries in the outfield and at third base, positions at which the versatile fielder can play. Lux is batting .302/.396/.422 with nine doubles, one triple, one home run, 16 RBI and 15 runs scored through 34 games.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Sitting versus lefty

Lux is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals. Lux started the previous six games, including the last two against lefties, but he'll take a seat Friday while in the midst of an 0-for-10 slump. Santiago Espinal will enter the lineup in left field versus Washington southpaw Mitchell Parker.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Sitting versus southpaw

Lux is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies. The 27-year-old started the previous five games (all against right-handed pitchers) but will sit Friday as lefty Kyle Freeland takes the mound for Colorado. Lux is in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 15-for-31 with a homer and 7:6 BB:K, and he figures to be back in there to face off against righty Antonio Senzatela on Saturday.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Runs hit streak to seven games

Lux went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Marlins. Lux was the lone Red to deliver with runners in scoring position -- the team was 1-for-10 in such situations -- when he launched a two-run home run as part of a three-run eighth inning. The homer was the first of the season for Lux, who extended a hit streak to seven games, during which he's 13-for-25 (.520) with three extra-base hits, six RBI, one steal and eight runs scored. Since injured teammates have returned, Lux has moved around the diamond, getting starts at third base, second base, DH and left field during the streak.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Lines up at second base again

Lux started at second base for a second straight game and went 2-for-4 with a double in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Giants. Lux filled in at second base for Matt McLain, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the lineup since last Thursday. Lux had been starting in left field in place of the injured Austin Hays (calf), who is nearing a return.

  • Reds' Gavin Lux: Covers second base in win

Lux started at second base and went 0-for-4 in Monday's 2-0 win over San Francisco. Matt McLain's lingering hamstring injury has forced manager Terry Francona to use a fill-in second basemen the last four games. It was Lux's turn Monday after Santiago Espinal started the previous three contests. Until Monday, Lux was used exclusively in left field as a fill-in for Austin Hays (calf). He could rejoin the team on an upcoming homestand that begins Friday, which means Lux would be freer to move around the infield.
