Orioles' Colton Cowser: Shifted to 60-day injured list
The Orioles transferred Cowser (thumb) to the 60-day injured list Monday.
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster. It doesn't change the timetable for Cowser, as he has yet to be cleared to resume baseball activities and isn't expected back until late May or early June.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Not ready for baseball activities
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Monday that Cowser (thumb) is improving, but the outfielder hasn't yet been cleared to begin baseball activities, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Cowser has presumably been able to keep up with his conditioning since fracturing his left thumb March 30, but the Orioles likely won't be able to pinpoint a firmer target date for him to come off the 10-day injured list until he's ready to hit and play the outfield without discomfort. At the time Cowser suffered the injury, Hyde suggested that the 25-year-old would likely be out for around 6-to-8 weeks, so late May to early June could represent a loose range for his potential return.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Out until late May/early June
Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Tuesday that the target for Cowser's (thumb) return is late May/early June, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
The timetable provided when Cowser went down with a fractured left thumb in late March was 6-to-8 weeks, so it appears he's looking at the latter end of that timeline, if not longer. Heston Kjerstad has been serving as the Orioles' primary left fielder since Cowser was injured.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Out for six-plus weeks
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that he expects Cowser to be out "probably 6-to-8 weeks minimum" after the outfielder was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a fractured left thumb, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Cowser suffered structural damage to his thumb while he slid into first base during Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Blue Jays. The Orioles recalled Dylan Carlson from Triple-A Norfolk to provide extra coverage in the outfield while Cowser is out, but Heston Kjerstad appears to be the most likely candidate to earn regular playing time -- at least against right-handed pitching -- over the next several weeks. Hyde didn't say whether or not Cowser would require surgery on his thumb.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Lands on IL with fractured thumb
The Orioles placed Cowser on the 10-day injured list Monday with a fractured left thumb, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Cowser injured the thumb on a slide into first base in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays, and testing revealed the fracture. It's not yet clear how much time Cowser will miss, but it will certainly be longer than a minimum stay on the IL. Dylan Carlson has taken Cowser's spot on the roster and will get some playing time in Cowser's place, but Heston Kjerstad could be the primary beneficiary.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Tending to thumb injury
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said after Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Blue Jays that Cowser injured his left thumb during the game and will undergo further evaluation, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Cowser went 1-for-4 with a base hit before he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the ninth inning. The outfielder suffered the injury two innings prior, when his thumb bent "all the way back" on a slide into first base, according to Hyde. The Orioles training staff will take a closer look at Cowser's thumb before determining if he'll be ready to play in Monday's series opener versus the Red Sox.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Wrapping up fantastic spring
Cowser has impressed this spring with the Orioles, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Cowser has compiled a .364 average with two home runs, three doubles, six RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases while also posting a 1.030 OPS over 44 at-bats in 16 games this spring. The outfielder is coming off of a 2024 campaign in which he produced a .242/.321/.447 slash line with 51 extra-base hits, including 24 homers, and he appears to be poised to take another step in 2025 while operating as an everyday starter in left field for Baltimore.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Moves past fractured hand
Cowser (hand) faced off against left-hander Keegan Akin and right-hander Bryan Baker during a live batting practice session Tuesday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Cowser's involvement in the Orioles' first full-squad workout of spring training implies that he's fully recovered from the surgery he underwent in October to address a left hand fracture. While it's unclear whether he'll see most of his action in left field, center field or right field in 2025, Cowser will be locked into a full-time role against right-handed pitching, and his strong defense will help his case for maintaining regular playing time versus lefties, too. The 24-year-old finished second in American League Rookie of the Year balloting in 2024 after slashing .242/.321/.447 with 24 home runs, nine stolen bases, 77 runs and 69 RBI over 561 regular-season plate appearances.

Orioles' Colton Cowser: Undergoes hand surgery
Cowser had successful surgery on his fractured hand Tuesday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Cowser fractured his left hand in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Royals on Oct. 2, the game in which the Orioles were eliminated. Given the timing of the injury, Cowser is expected to have enough recovery time to be ready for the start of spring training.

Cowser was removed from Wednesday's game against the Royals due to pain in his left hand, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Cowser suffered the injury while striking out swinging at a pitch that hit him in the hand during the fifth inning. He was able to take the field once the O's went on defense to begin the sixth, but he was eventually replaced in left field by Heston Kjerstad to start the seventh. The Orioles' loss Wednesday eliminated them from the postseason, so Cowser will have plenty of time to recover before the start of spring training in February.
