Angels' Zach Neto: Season debut coming soon
Neto (shoulder) could be activated from the 10-day injured list as soon as Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Neto played a full game with Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday and hit his fourth home run in what was his 12th rehab contest. He's slated for another nine full innings with Salt Lake on Wednesday. The Angels finish up a road trip in Texas on Thursday, so it seems likelier that they'll wait until their homestand -- which begins Friday -- before activating Neto. Sunday is the final day of Neto's 20-day rehab window, so the latest he'll be activated is likely Tuesday versus the Pirates.

Angels' Zach Neto: Blazing hot in rehab stint
Neto (shoulder) has gone 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, two walks, six runs and four RBI over his past two minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Salt Lake.
Neto is rehabbing from right shoulder surgery, and he seems just about ready to make his season debut with the Angels. The third-year shortstop has slashed .320/.452/.760 with three long balls, two doubles, 10 runs, six RBI and a stolen base overall across 31 plate appearances during his rehab assignment. Just as importantly, Neto has been able to play shortstop in each of his past two games and in three of his past four contests after being limited to a designated-hitter role in his first three appearances with Salt Lake.

Angels' Zach Neto: Ready to play shortstop
Neto (shoulder) will start at shortstop Friday as he continues his rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake, Bees play-by-play announcer Tony Parks reports.
The 24-year-old began the rehab assignment Tuesday and was limited to serving as the designated hitter in his first few games, but he's now been cleared to play the field. Neto could be ready to make his 2025 debut for the Angels sometime next week after he gets in a few games defensively.

Neto (shoulder) went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday during a rehab appearance with Triple-A Salt Lake.
Neto began a rehab stint April 1 and has collected exactly one hit in each of his three games so far. He's gone a collective 3-for-13, and two of his hits (a double and Thursday's homer) have gone for extra bases. Neto hasn't yet played the field, however, as he's started all three of his games at DH. He'll likely need to get in some work on defense before he's ready to join the major-league club.

It's not yet clear whether he will immediately play shortstop or be eased into action at designated hitter. Neto hasn't necessarily had a setback -- it's long been expected that he'd open the season on the injured list -- but fantasy managers who are stashing the talented young shortstop will need to wait a bit longer to learn of a clear timeline for his return. Angels' Zach Neto: Continuing to make progress
Neto (shoulder) has been throwing across the diamond in addition to participating in other defensive drills, Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune reports.
Neto began throwing from shortstop to first base this week after being limited to shorter throws during the first half of March. The 24-year-old is also doing "just about every defensive drill that the rest of the team is doing" aside from throwing and was recently cleared to take swings off a hitting machine. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to face live pitching, and Neto remains likely to begin the season on the injured list, but he continues to be described as "ahead of schedule" in his rehab from the right shoulder surgery he underwent last November. Neto made it clear that he's pleased with his progress to this point, saying, "Honestly, I feel really great with my shoulder and where it's at. I'm feeling way stronger since when I first walked in here. I'm trusting our training staff and our coaches to get me in the right spot. I'm feeling great every day I walk in here."

The expectation has been that Neto would need a stint on the injured list to start the season, so Washington relaying that the shortstop is tracking toward a return in April is relatively good news. Neto underwent right shoulder surgery in November and began a throwing progression early last week. It's not clear when Neto might be cleared to play in games, but Washington's timeline suggests the 24-year-old could see some Cactus League action before the schedule runs out.
