Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Doubles twice in win
Rocchio went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 8-6 win over the Athletics.
Rocchio's last three hits have gone for doubles, and the shortstop has produced offensively since the Guardians snapped a 10-game losing streak. Over the last eight contests, Rocchio has gone 9-for-27 (.333) with six doubles, a home run and six RBI. He opened the season as Cleveland's primary shortstop and is getting a second chance at the position with Gabriel Arias (ankle) on the injured list. Arias began a rehab assignment Friday and should return soon, but he's not a lock to reclaim the position. Guardians shortstops rank last in average (.193) and on-base percentage (.259) and 28th in OPS (.552)

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Swats homer in win
Rocchio went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 10-6 extra-inning win over the Astros.
Rocchio connected for his first homer of the season in the fourth inning, which gave the Guardians a 6-1 lead. The shortstop didn't do much initially after being recalled July 1, but he's gone 4-for-6 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI in two games to start the series against Houston. Rocchio will continue to get the majority of the starts at shortstop while Gabriel Arias (ankle) recovers on the 10-day injured list.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Hitless in return to MLB
Rocchio started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Cubs.
Rocchio got the start against a left-hander but was removed for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning when a righty reliever entered. He was summoned from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday after the Guardians placed Gabriel Arias (ankle) on the 10-day injured list. Rocchio opened 2025 as the starting shortstop but was sent to the minors May 7 with a .165/.235/.198 line over 35 games. He'll get a chance at redemption for as long as Arias is out, but Rocchio may share shortstop with Daniel Schneemann. The position should be up for grabs, as Cleveland shortstops rank last in average (.183) and OPS (.515).

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Back in big leagues
The Guardians recalled Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.
Rocchio collected an .837 OPS with seven home runs across 41 games with Columbus after being sent down in mid-May. That's after he slashed an ugly .165/.235/.198 slash line in his first 35 contests with the big club. Rocchio could be given another chance at regular playing time at shortstop while Gabriel Arias (ankle) is out, but Daniel Schneemann is also an option at the position.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: On standby if needed
Rocchio could return to the majors if Gabriel Arias' ankle injury forces him to miss extended time, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Arias suffered an ankle injury and was removed from Sunday's game against the Cardinals. The injury occurred early enough in the Guardians' game to impact the lineup for Triple-A Columbus, which did not have Rocchio in its starting nine. After he was demoted to the minors with a .165 average and .433 OPS through 35 games with Cleveland, Rocchio is batting .252 with an .837 OPS, seven home runs, 30 RBI, seven steals and 28 runs across 41 games with the Clippers.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Sent down to minors
The Guardians optioned Rocchio to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.
Rocchio was the Guardians' primary shortstop last season and began 2025 in the same role, but his playing time had fallen off considerably in recent weeks amidst a .165/.235/.198 slash line in his first 35 contests. Gabriel Arias has been seeing the lion's share of the reps at shortstop lately and will continue to serve as the main option at the position while Rocchio heads to Triple-A.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Sits out entire series
Rocchio did not appear in the recently completed three-game series against the Phillies.
Rocchio watched Gabriel Arias start all three games at shortstop against Philadelphia and hasn't played since last Wednesday. It's been a challenging start to the season offensively for Rocchio, who has zero hits and walks over his last 28 at-bats. He sports a .165/.235/.198 slash line through 35 games. Arias (.735 OPS) and Daniel Schneemann (.888 OPS) are holding down the middle infield for the Guardians.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Back on bench as struggles continue
Rocchio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
After he was held out of the lineup Tuesday and Wednesday, Rocchio drew starts at shortstop in each of the ensuing three contests, but he went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in those games to bring his average down to .185 on the season. Now back on the bench Sunday, Rocchio looks like he may have to settle for a part-time role in the middle infield, as the Guardians have been prioritizing Gabriel Arias and Daniel Schneemann ahead of him.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Could lose everyday role
Rocchio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
After going 0-for-4 in Monday's series opener to bring his average down to .205 on the season, Rocchio finds himself on the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher for the second day in a row. According to Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, manager Stephen Vogt didn't explicitly say that Rocchio has been removed from his everyday role at shortstop, though the skipper noted that Gabriel Arias and Daniel Schneemann are playing better at the moment. With that in mind, Arias and Schneemann seem likely to operate as the Guardians' primary double-play tandem for the time being, though Rocchio could spell the left-handed-hitting Schneemann when the Guardians face left-handed pitching.
