  • Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Back in outfield at Triple-A

Anthony returned to playing the outfield at Triple-A Worcester this week after previously being limited to designated hitter duties due to right shoulder soreness.

Anthony started in the DH spot for nine straight games as he dealt with minor soreness in his throwing shoulder, but he played left field in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday and shifted to right field Thursday. The top prospect has slashed .308/.444/.590 with five home runs, two stolen bases and a 21:20 K:BB over 99 plate appearances this season with Worcester. Now that the 20-year-old is back to playing defense, it would not be a surprise if he earns a promotion to the major leagues sooner rather than later, although there's no obvious spot for him in the Boston outfield at the moment.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Homers in loss

Narvaez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

The backstop cut the Red Sox's deficit to one in the eighth inning with an opposite-field blast off Gabe Speier. It's Narvaez's second homer this year, both of which have come in his last five games. The 26-year-old is slashing .210/.269/.371 with eight runs scored and six RBI through 67 plate appearances this season, though he'll likely be relegated to backup duties soon with Connor Wong (finger) scheduled to begin a rehab assignment this weekend.

  • Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Extends hit streak

Duran went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Duran doubled in the third inning and scored on an Alex Bregman single two batters later. The double extended Duran's hit streak to 11 games, during which he's 13-for-47 (.276) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, three RBI, two steals and six runs.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Finishes rough homestand

Devers went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Devers extended a hitless streak to 16 at-bats and finished Boston's seven-game homestand 2-for-23, which caused his batting average to dip below .200. He's had a few pockets of hitless runs in 2025, including a historic season-opening slump, when Devers struck out 15 times in his first 19 at-bats. On the bright side, he worked another eight walks during the homestand, and his 18.3 walk percentage is a career high.

  • Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Stays hot in loss

Bregman went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two total RBI in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Bregman got Boston on the board with his home run off Bryan Woo in the first inning, his fifth long ball this season, before adding a second RBI with a two-out single in the third. Bregman has been red hot at the plate -- he's hit safely in five straight games, going 8-for-18 (.444) with four extra-base hits in that span. The 31-year-old Bregman is now slashing .320/.393/.563 with 21 RBI and 17 runs scored through his first 117 plate appearances with the Red Sox.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Struggles with command in loss

Crochet (2-2) took the loss Thursday against the Mariners, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks over five innings. He struck out nine.

The Mariners got to Crochet early Thursday, scoring twice in each of the first two innings. It's the left-hander's first subpar outing with the Red Sox -- Crochet hadn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his previous four starts. His ERA still sits at an impressive 1.95 with a 1.05 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB across 37 innings this season. Crochet will look to bounce back in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Toronto.

  • Red Sox's Luis Guerrero: Recalled from Triple-A

The Red Sox recalled Guerrero from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Guerrero holds a 5.23 ERA and 7:5 K:BB over 10.1 frames this season with Worcester. He will provide manager Alex Cora with a fresh arm in the bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Josh Winckowski: Sent down to minors

The Red Sox optioned Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Winckowski was needed for three innings of relief in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, so he's being replaced by a fresh arm. Luis Guerrero will absorb Winckowski's spot on the roster and in the bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela: Day off Thursday

Rafaela is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Mariners.

Rafaela started the first two games of the series and reached base four times, but he'll take a seat in Thursday's matinee. Kristian Campbell is in center field for the Red Sox, while David Hamilton is getting a start at second base.

  • Red Sox's Sean Newcomb: Racks up eight Ks in loss

Newcomb (0-3) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings as the Red Sox fell 8-5 to the Mariners. He struck out eight.

The Ks were a season high for the southpaw and he completed five innings for the first time, but Newcomb also served up his first homer of the season -- a three-run shot by J.P. Crawford in the fourth inning -- and he's issued multiple walks in all five of his outings. With Lucas Giolito (hamstring) set to come off the IL next week, Newcomb may have made his last start for Boston, but it's not clear if he'll shift to the bullpen or get bumped off the 26-man roster when that happens. Through 22.1 innings, Newcomb carries a 4.43 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 27:11 K:BB.

  • Red Sox's Triston Casas: Another three-run shot

Casas went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to Seattle.

Casas repeated the same line he had Tuesday. He'd gone 14 games without a home run before going deep the last two days. The two homers are a hopeful sign that the first baseman is set to emerge from a slump that has him hitting .171 with a .570 OPS through 91 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Richard Fitts: Playing catch

Fitts (pectoral) played catch Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Fitts sustained a pectoral strain during a start against the White Sox on April 12. He had opened the season as part of the rotation due to injuries to projected starters. Brayan Bello returned from injury and pitched Tuesday, and Lucas Giolito (hamstring) is expected back May 1. That suggests Fitts will head back to the minors after his recovery.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Reporting to Fort Myers

Crawford (knee) threw an up-and-down bullpen session Tuesday and will report to extended spring training in Fort Myers on Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Crawford will begin the process of pitching to hitters and starting in extended spring training games before embarking on a rehab assignment. The Red Sox estimate a June return at the earliest for the right-hander.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Scheduled for season debut May 1

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Giolito (hamstring) is tentatively scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut May 1 in Toronto, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Giolito will be making his Red Sox debut as well, after he signed with the team in December 2023 but missed the entire 2024 season following internal brace surgery on his right elbow. A left hamstring strain is what currently has Giolito on the IL, and he will have to come out of his fifth rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Friday with no issues before officially being cleared to join Boston's rotation next week.

  • Red Sox's Connor Wong: Nearing rehab assignment

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Wong (finger) will likely begin a rehab assignment this weekend, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Working his way back from a fractured left pinky finger suffered in early April, Wong is able to catch without issue but still has some progress to make while swinging the bat. If the catcher is indeed able to begin playing in rehab games this weekend, he could return from the 10-day injured list at some point next week.
