White Sox's Munetaka Murakami: Two hits through three WBC games
Murakami (fatigue) has gone 2-for-10 with two walks, three runs, one RBI and one stolen base in three games for Team Japan during the World Baseball Classic.
Murakami was scratched from the White Sox's Cactus League lineup Feb. 26 due to a bout of fatigue, but as expected, he's been fully cleared to play in WBC games with Japan. The 26-year-old infielder will remain with Japan for the duration of its WBC run before rejoining the White Sox for the final week of spring training.

White Sox's Shane Smith: Awarded Opening Day assignment
The White Sox announced Sunday that Smith will start their March 26 season opener in Milwaukee.
Coming off a rookie season in which he earned an All-Star nod while pitching to a 3.81 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 29 starts, Smith was the obvious choice to take the hill for the Opening Day game. The 25-year-old righty will be facing off against the organization that drafted him in 2021 before he joined the White Sox after Chicago selected him in the Rule 5 Draft following the 2024 season.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Sharpest outing of spring
Martin allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four across three innings in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners.
Martin has had mixed results this spring, but he settled into a groove during Saturday's appearance. He threw 32 strikes on 50 pitches, while generating punchouts of Brendan Donovan, Luke Raley and Mitch Garver. The White Sox have made little known about their rotation plans to this point in the spring, though Martin's ramp-up suggests he has a good chance of securing a spot to begin the 2026 campaign.

White Sox's Tanner Murray: Day-to-day with finger injury
Murray was removed from Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners after being struck by a pitch on his right pinky finger, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Murray was hit by a pitch in the second inning and proceeded to take his base and steal second base before being removed from the contest. The good news for Murray is that X-rays came back negative, though the injury could limit his playing time over the next couple of days. Murray was acquired by the White Sox from the Rays in November after spending the entire 2025 season with Triple-A Durham, where he slashed .241/.299/.400 with five steals (in nine attempts), 18 home runs and 58 RBI in 572 plate appearances.

White Sox's Tanner McDougal: Sent down to Charlotte
The White Sox optioned McDougal to Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.
McDougal was awarded with a spot on the White Sox's 40-man roster over the offseason after posting a 3.26 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 113.1 total innings between High-A and Double-A in 2025. The 22-year-old will be elevated to Triple-A to begin the regular season and could make his MLB debut sometime this year if he continues to pitch well.

White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Back in action
Benintendi (side) will serve as the White Sox's designated hitter during Saturday's Cactus League game against Seattle.
After sitting down for a few days with side soreness, Benintendi made his return to the Cactus League on Thursday. He has gone 3-for-9 over four games so far this spring, and he remains on track to open the season as Chicago's primary left fielder.

White Sox's Sean Burke: Bumpy start to spring
Burke allowed four earned runs on five hits while striking out three across 3.0 innings in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Guardians.
This was Burke's third outing of the spring, and he's allowed a combined six earned runs across his last six innings. Despite the poor line Thursday, he did manage to settle in after allowing all four of his runs to the first six batters he faced. While Burke is expected to land a spot in the rotation to begin the season, manager Will Venable has been purposely non-committal about the roles of his pitchers to this point in the exhibition season, per Barry Bloom of the Chicago Sun-Times.

White Sox's Duncan Davitt: Sent to Charlotte
The White Sox optioned Davitt to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
Davitt made two appearances in the Cactus League this spring and didn't allow an earned run over four innings. He'll officially begin the 2026 campaign at Charlotte, where he turned in a 5.03 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 48.1 frames last season.

White Sox's Drew Thorpe: Throws bullpen session
Thorpe (elbow) threw a 20-pitch, all-fastball bullpen session Tuesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
It was the first time Thorpe has thrown off the mound since he came down with tendinitis in his surgically repaired right elbow nearly a month ago. The right-hander is slated for another bullpen session as he continues to rebuild stamina. Thorpe has not pitched in a game since 2024, having missed all of the 2025 campaign following Tommy John surgery. He'll be assigned to the Triple-A Charlotte rotation once he's stretched out but is a candidate to rejoin the big-league rotation at some point in 2026 if things go well.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Day-to-day after departing game
Gonzalez left Tuesday's spring training game versus the Padres due to tightness in his lower back.
Gonzalez took the mound in the top half of the seventh inning, and he struck out his first batter but then allowed a single and three consecutive walks. He departed the game after walking in a run on what turned out to be his final batter. The White Sox labeled the righty as day-to-day after his exit.

White Sox's Edgar Quero: Even reps at catcher unlikely
Quero is likely to get the majority of his starts at catcher against left-handed pitching, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
While manager Will Venable stopped short of calling the White Sox's catcher situation a straight platoon, he did acknowledge that Kyle Teel will start behind the plate against most right-handed pitching. That leaves Quero on the short end of playing time, though he's also likely to get at least some plate appearances at DH. While the playing time situation is a bit murky, Queto has picked up nine hits across his first 17 at-bats -- three of which have gone for extra bases -- early in Cactus League action, after working at Driveline to improve his swing this winter.

White Sox's Kyle Teel: Set to be primary catcher
Teel will catch on most days when the White Sox face a right-handed pitcher, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
The White Sox have a crowded depth chart at catcher, with Teel and Edgar Quero leading the way. Teel earned the majority of playing time at the position across the second half of 2025 and looks to be in line to maintain that role. Manager Will Venable stopped short of calling the distribution of playing time a platoon, though Quero will draw most of his starts behind the dish against lefties while also getting some additional plate appearances at designated hitter. Meanwhile, Teel will look to build off of a solid rookie season, when he hit .273 with eight homers and three stolen bases across 297 plate appearances.

White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Expected back later this week
Benintendi (side) took some swings Sunday and is expected to return to Cactus League action after the White Sox's off day Wednesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Benintendi was scratched from the Cactus League lineup this past Friday due to right side soreness and has remained out since then. However, Benintendi said Monday that the White Sox are just exercising caution with him, adding that he would be playing if it were the regular season. Benintendi will be Chicago's primary left fielder in 2026 but will also see starts at designated hitter.

White Sox's Luisangel Acuna: Back in action Monday
Acuna (eye) will start in center field and bat second in Monday's Cactus League contest versus the Giants.
Acuna had to depart a game last Wednesday and received stitches as a result of a laceration above his left eyebrow. He's healed now and ready to go. Acuna is 3-for-7 with one stolen base and a 0:2 BB:K in his first three contests this spring. Acuna is projected to open the 2026 campaign as the Opening Day center fielder for the White Sox.

White Sox's Javier Mogollon: Makes spring debut
Mogollon (undisclosed) made his Cactus League debut Friday in the White Sox's 5-2 loss to the Brewers, going 0-for-1 while playing three innings at second base.
The 20-year-old infielder didn't play after June 29 last season due to an unspecified injury, but he looks to have moved past that issue. Mogollon is expected to open 2026 at either High-A Winston-Salem or Single-A Kannapolis.

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Set to play third base
Vargas is set to serve as the everyday third baseman for the White Sox in 2026, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Vargas earned a nearly full allotment of plate appearances for the first time in 2025, but he split his defensive responsibilities fairly evenly between first and third base. With Munetaka Murakami (fatigue) expected to serve as the White Sox's first baseman in 2026, Vargas will have a more stable defensive home. Vargas believes the stability could help him hit better as well, as he'll look to improve on his .234/.316/.401 line across 569 plate appearances in 2025.

White Sox's Shane Smith: Works three innings
Smith allowed one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk across three innings during Saturday's Cactus League game against the Guardians.
This marked Smith's second start of spring training, and he worked up to 41 pitches. He threw 25 of those offerings for strikes in a relatively sharp outing. After posting a 3.81 ERA and 1.20 WHP across 146.1 innings in 2025, Smith is a candidate to start Opening Day for the White Sox.

White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Scratched with right side soreness
Benintendi was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Rangers with right side soreness, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Consider Benintendi day-to-day for now, as Darren Baker will now make the start in left field and bat ninth against Texas. Benintendi spent the offseason getting in better shape and dropped 12 pounds after dealing with Achilles issues for the previous two seasons. His .738 OPS last season was Benintendi's best mark in three campaigns with the White Sox.

White Sox's Everson Pereira: Lingering oblique soreness
Pereira is still feeling soreness in his right oblique after injuring it last week while taking swings off the Trajekt machine, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Pereira was examined by team doctors Wednesday and is still waiting for the results. Meanwhile, he has been limited to running and strengthening his oblique area. Pereira is in competition for reps in the White Sox' outfield and is still waiting to make his Cactus League debut.

White Sox's Munetaka Murakami: Scratched due to fatigue
Murakami was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers due to general fatigue, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
The White Sox are saying it's precautionary in advance of his long travel day to Japan for the World Baseball Classic. Ryan Galanie has replaced Murakami in the lineup at first base and will bat ninth. Murakami is expected back for the final week of spring training following the WBC.
