Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Gaining foothold in everyday lineup
Schneemann will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Twins.
At least temporarily, Schneemann seems to have supplanted the struggling Brayan Rocchio for a regular spot in Cleveland's middle infield. For the second straight day, Rocchio finds himself on the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher (Pablo Lopez), while Schneemann has now been included in the lineup in five of the last six matchups with righties. According to Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, manager Stephen Vogt implied the hotter bat in Schneemann, who is slashing .379/.419/.586 dating back to April 13.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Could lose everyday role
Rocchio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
After going 0-for-4 in Monday's series opener to bring his average down to .205 on the season, Rocchio finds himself on the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher for the second day in a row. According to Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, manager Stephen Vogt didn't explicitly say that Rocchio has been removed from his everyday role at shortstop, though the skipper noted that Gabriel Arias and Daniel Schneemann are playing better at the moment. With that in mind, Arias and Schneemann seem likely to operate as the Guardians' primary double-play tandem for the time being, though Rocchio could spell the left-handed-hitting Schneemann when the Guardians face left-handed pitching.

Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Beginning rehab assignment
Cecconi (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Cecconi got a late start to the season due to a left oblique strain suffered back in mid-March, but he is finally ready to pitch in games. The right-hander could eventually push for a spot in the Cleveland rotation, but he'll need time in the minors to get ramped back up.

Guardians' Matt Festa: Shipped to Cleveland
The Guardians acquired Festa from the Rangers on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.
The right-hander had been signed to a minor-league deal with Texas, so he won't be part of Cleveland's 40-man roster and will be assigned to Triple-A Columbus as he moves on to his new organization. The 32-year-old righty has seen big-league action in five of the past six seasons, and it wouldn't be surprising if he eventually gets a call to the Cleveland bullpen after getting off to a strong start to the campaign in the minors. Over his nine appearances for Triple-A Round Rock, Festa didn't allow a run across 14.2 innings and struck out 20 while walking seven and allowing 10 hits.

Guardians' Cade Smith: Works eighth inning
Smith allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two over a scoreless eighth inning in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Twins.
Smith has operated as a fill-in closer while Emmanuel Clase worked on the demons that plagued him early in 2025. Clase followed Smith to pitch the ninth inning of a 1-1 game, which indicates the former is still a trusted late-game arm and in the closer mix.

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Homers in win
Naylor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Minnesota.
Several innings before Kyle Manzardo's homer walked off the Twins, Naylor gave the Guardians an early 1-0 lead in the third inning. It was the third home run in 20 games for the catcher, who's batting .185 with a .634 OPS. After taking over as the primary catcher in 2024, Naylor's offense took a hit and that has continued into the first part of 2025.

Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: Walks off Minnesota
Manzardo went 2-for-3 with a walk and a walk-off solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win against the Twins.
Offense was at a premium Tuesday in Cleveland, but Manzardo had a productive evening and came through in the clutch with a solo homer to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning. The 24-year-old is batting just .227 through 26 games this season, but he's still showcased his power potential with eight long balls. Manzardo has provided a bit more consistency over the past 10 games, however, having gone 11-for-37 (.297 average) with two doubles and three homers.

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Picks up fourth win
Clase (4-0) allowed a hit in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win Tuesday against the Twins. He did not strike out or walk a batter.
It wasn't a save situation, but the right-hander was called upon for the top of the ninth inning of a 1-1 tie and was awarded the win after Kyle Manzardo clubbed a walk-off homer in the bottom of the frame. Cade Smith -- who has converted Cleveland's past three saves -- worked the eighth inning Tuesday, which is an indication that Clase is still firmly in the mix at closer. His 6.57 ERA and 1.95 WHIP for the campaign may mean that he and Smith split the role for a bit, but Clase has now delivered two straight scoreless outings after dealing with a bout of shoulder discomfort.

Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Allows one run over seven frames
Bibee didn't factor in the decision Tuesday against the Twins despite giving up one run on five hits and no walks across seven innings. He struck out five.
The right-hander had little trouble dispatching Minnesota outside the fifth inning, which is when Ty France knotted the game 1-1 with a solo homer. Bibee threw 64 of 92 pitches for strikes, and the improved command was a welcome sight with it being the first time through six starts this year that he didn't walk a batter. The long ball continues to be a concern as he's already given up nine homers, but Bibee is trending up with just three runs allowed in his past two starts.

Guardians' Shane Bieber: Shifts to 60-day IL
The Guardians transferred Bieber (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander continues to rehab from Tommy John surgery and isn't expected to be fully ramped up until the middle of summer, so the IL move won't affect his return timeline. Bieber is expected to begin pitching in simulated games at the Guardians' spring training complex at some point in May, after which a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment is likely to follow.

Guardians' Cody Bolton: Optioned to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Bolton to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Bolton was in the majors for just one day and yielded three runs over two innings in his lone appearance. He's being sent out in favor of fresh bullpen help.

Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Quick return to big leagues
The Guardians recalled Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
The left-hander was optioned to Columbus on Monday, but he's eligible to be recalled a day later since Paul Sewald (shoulder) was placed on the injured list. Cantillo has been an effective bullpen piece for Cleveland early this year and has a 2.35 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB across 15.1 innings.

Guardians' Vince Velasquez: Back in big leagues
The Guardians selected Velasquez's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Velasquez is being promoted even after he posted a 6.00 ERA and 11:16 K:BB over 15 innings covering four starts with Columbus. He appears likely to be used only in mop-up duty.

Guardians' Paul Sewald: To IL with shoulder strain
The Guardians placed Sewald on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right shoulder strain, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Sewald was forced to depart an appearance Monday against the Twins due to the injury and it will cost him at least the next couple weeks of action. The veteran reliever had been roughed up for five runs over 3.2 innings covering his last five outings.

Guardians' Nolan Jones: Taking seat Tuesday
Jones is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.
Even with right-hander Chris Paddack on the mound, Jones will come off the bench Tuesday. Jhonkensy Noel is manning right field and batting sixth. Jones is slashing just .179/.295/.299 with five doubles, one home run, five RBI, five runs scored and 11:23 BB:K across 78 plate appearances this season.

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Not in lineup Tuesday
Rocchio is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.
Gabriel Arias will shift over to shortstop, and Daniel Schneemann is manning second base and batting seventh against Chris Paddack. Rocchio is 1-for-17 at the plate over the last seven days.

Guardians' Carlos Santana: Logs two hits in loss
Santana went 2-for-3 in Monday's 11-1 loss to Minnesota.
Santana snapped a hitless run during Sunday's contest and followed up Monday with his first multi-hit effort in 10 games. He's batting .220 with a .598 OPS through 114 plate appearances.

Guardians' Jakob Junis: Avoids injury
Junis allowed one hit and struck out one over two scoreless innings in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Twins.
Junis, who entered after starter Gavin Williams lasted just two innings, took a comebacker off his left quad in the third inning. He was down for a brief time while trainers assessed the right-hander and was deemed fit to continue. He got out of that inning and set down the side in order in the fourth. Junis has been a useful arm out of the bullpen, posting a 1.93 ERA with just one walk over 14 innings.
