Tigers' Colt Keith: Playing time dropping
Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Orioles.
Keith has a .545 OPS through 81 plate appearances this season and finds himself on the bench Sunday for the fourth time in Detroit's past five contests, with three of those games coming against right-handed pitchers. The 23-year-old was expected to operate as the Tigers' primary first baseman this year, but Gleyber Torres' early oblique injury led to more action at second base, and the strong play of Spencer Torkelson and Zach McKinstry has resulted in a reduced role for Keith since Torres' return.

Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Set to start Wednesday
Jobe is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Astros, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Jobe last took the mound April 18 versus Kansas City, so it'll end up being 12 days in between starts for the right-hander. There's been no indication he's dealing with an injury, so the Tigers may simply be incorporating some in-season break to help manage the 22-year-old rookie's workload. Jobe has pitched well through four starts this year with a 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 14:10 K:BB across 20 innings.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Records three hits in win
Baez went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Orioles.
Baez started the nightcap on the bench before entering as a defensive replacement, though he managed to make his mark in the first game. The 32-year-old started that contest in center field, which is where he's been playing exclusively recently. The eventual returns of Matt Vierling (shoulder), Wenceel Perez (back) and Parker Meadows (arm) will give Detroit other options in center, but Baez's versatility has given his fantasy profile a boost in the early going, and he figures to serve as a super utility player once Detroit is healthier.

Tigers' Brant Hurter: Picks up first 2025 win
Hurter (1-0) gave up one run across 2.1 innings of relief to earn the win in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Orioles. He allowed a hit and two walks.
After Keider Montero covered 4.1 innings to start the game, Hurter finished the fourth then worked into the seventh to earn his first win of the season out of the bullpen. The lefty has been solid with a 2.65 ERA across 17 innings, which is in line with the 2.58 ERA he posted across 45.1 regular-season innings in 2024. Hurter isn't missing many bats, however, with only 11 strikeouts across those 17 frames.

Tigers' Riley Greene: Goes deep Saturday
Greene went 2-for-7 with a walk, a double, a home run and three RBI across both games of Saturday's doubleheader with the Orioles.
Greene had a productive day at the park, which included his fourth home run of the season in the nightcap. The young outfielder is still slumping a bit with a .233/.282/.398 slash line, which are all down from his 2024 numbers when he finished the regular season with a career-best .827 OPS. Greene is plenty talented, however, and could get on a hot streak at any point.

Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Power surge continues Saturday
Torkelson went 2-for-8 with a double, a home run and three RBI across both games of Saturday's doubleheader with the Orioles.
Torkelson continues to drive the ball this season, as that's now eight home runs across 27 games to go along with a strong .950 OPS. The 25-year-old dipped to a .669 OPS in the regular season last year, but he appears to be having a bounceback campaign in 2025, and he could surpass his career-best 31 home runs that he tallied back in 2023 if he stays healthy.

Tigers' Will Vest: Nabs third save
Vest walked one and struck out two over 1.1 scoreless innings to record his third save of the season in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
The 29-year-old righty continued a dominant stretch that has seen him reel off 11 straight scoreless appearances since giving up a solo homer to Mookie Betts on March 28. Vest appears to be the top option for saves right now in the Tigers' bullpen, posting a 0.75 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB through 12 innings on the season, although Tommy Kahnle -- who didn't pitch in Saturday's matinee -- also remains in the ninth-inning mix.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Sharp in fourth win
Mize (4-1) picked up the win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles, allowing one run on eight hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.
The right-hander made only one real mistake on the afternoon, which Ryan O'Hearn deposited into the left-field seats for a solo shot in the fourth inning. Mize has given up one run or fewer in four of his five starts to begin the season, and he'll take a 2.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB through 29.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week against the Angels.

Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Idle for Game 2
Carpenter is not in the Tigers' starting lineup for second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
Carpenter served as the designated hitter in Game 1 and went 0-for-4 with one walk and two strikeouts. With the Orioles sending southpaw Keegan Akin to the mound, Carpenter will begin Game 2 in the dugout while Gleyber Torres fills in as the DH and bats leadoff.

Tigers' Keider Montero: Starting Game 2 as 27th man
The Tigers added Montero to their roster as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader, and he will start the nightcap against Baltimore, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
The Tigers didn't use Montero out of the bullpen during Game 1, so they'll give the 24-year-old his third start of the season Saturday. He's allowed eight earned runs over 9.1 innings in the majors so far this season but will have a decent chance to bounce back against an Orioles offense that ranks 20th in the majors with a .692 OPS.

Tigers' Colt Keith: Sitting out Game 1
Keith isn't in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Baltimore.
Keith will take a seat to begin Saturday's festivities after going 2-for-10 with an RBI and a run scored over his last five games. His absence will put Spencer Torkelson at first base and open a spot in the lineup for Zack McKinstry to start in right field, batting third.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Orioles-Tigers postponed
Mize and the Tigers won't face the Orioles on Friday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
Friday's contest will be made up Saturday as part of a doubleheader, and Mize will start on the mound in the early game, per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com. The 27-year-old righty will be looking to maintain his strong positive momentum during his next outing, as he currently boasts a 2.22 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through 24.1 innings across his first four starts this season.

Tigers' Sean Guenther: Recalled from Triple-A
The Tigers recalled Guenther from Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
He's absorbing the roster spot vacated by Bailey Horn, who was optioned to Toledo on Thursday. Guenther got a late start to the season due to lumbar spine inflammation, but he's being summoned after allowing three runs over his first 3.1 innings in the minors.
