Waiver Wire Pitcher Moves & Deep Leagues Saves Options

Top Brewers News

  • Brewers' Logan Henderson: Recalled ahead of start

The Brewers recalled Henderson from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Henderson will start Wednesday's contest in Cleveland. The rookie right-hander was dynamite in a spot start in his major-league debut last month against the Athletics, tossing six innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts. Wednesday's outing is likely to be just a spot start for Henderson, but it's possible he could convince the Brewers to keep him around if he pitches well.

  • Brewers' Bryan Hudson: Heading back to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Hudson to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Hudson was sent out to the minors to make room on the active roster for right-hander Logan Henderson, who was recalled from Nashville to make a spot start Wednesday against the Guardians. The lefty reliever was with the Brewers for less than a week after being promoted last Friday, making his lone appearance in Monday's 5-0 loss to Cleveland while striking out four and allowing one earned run on one hit and three walks over 1.2 innings.

  • Brewers' Quinn Priester: Handed tough-luck loss

Priester (1-2) yielded a run on three hits and two walks over five innings Tuesday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Guardians.

Priester coughed up a solo homer to Jose Ramirez in the first inning but kept Cleveland's bats fairly quiet for the next four frames. It was Priester's second straight loss despite yielding only two earned runs (four total runs) in those outings. He threw 39 of 69 pitches for strikes and forced only four whiffs Tuesday. His ERA fell to 4.59 with a 23:21 K:BB through 33.1 innings. Priester is lined up to face the Orioles at home next week.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Doubles, steals two bases

Chourio went 2-for-4 with a double and two steals in Tuesday's loss to Cleveland.

Chourio singled and swiped two bags in the first inning before knocking a double in the sixth. He accounted for two of Milwaukee's three hits in the 2-0 loss. Chourio has not struck out in three straight games and has just four strikeouts over his last 10 games. He's now slashing .265/.283/.470 with 22 extra-base hits through 187 plate appearances this season.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Makes season debut

Quero (hamstring), per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, "played his first minor-league game of the season Monday... for Milwaukee's Arizona Complex League club."

A hamstring injury delayed Quero's start to the season, but he seems to be nearing a full recovery. The 22-year-old missed nearly all of last season with a shoulder injury, but he remains both one of Milwaukee's top prospects and one of the better catching prospects league-wide.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Riding pine Tuesday

Frelick is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Guardians.

Frelick has started 13 games against southpaws this season, but he'll head to the bench Tuesday against lefty Logan Allen. Daz Cameron is starting in right field and batting second. Frelick is 2-for-16 in four games since returning from a minor knee issue.

  • Brewers' Caleb Durbin: Heads to bench

Durbin is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Guardians.

This is Durbin's first day off since April 24. He is hitting .118 with a double, zero home runs, zero steals and a 2:2 K:BB in 11 games in May. Andruw Monasterio is starting at third base and batting eighth.

  • Brewers' Nestor Cortes: In midst of throwing program

Cortes (elbow) resumed playing catch last week, MLB.com reports.

After being placed on the injured list April 6 due to a left elbow flexor strain, Cortes received a platelet-rich plasma injection and was shut down for about a month before being cleared to start up his throwing program. The Brewers haven't yet indicated that Cortes has been cleared for mound work, so he's presumably still in the process of increasing his throwing distance off flat ground. He was moved to the 60-day IL on April 21 and won't be eligible to rejoin Milwaukee until early June.

  • Brewers' Logan Henderson: Starting Wednesday for big club

Henderson will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville to start Wednesday in Cleveland, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

With Tobias Myers back at Triple-A and Jose Quintana (shoulder) getting pushed back, there was a spot open for Henderson this week. There are a lot of moving parts in Milwaukee, with Brandon Woodruff (ankle/shoulder) and Aaron Civale (hamstring) potentially nearing returns, so this could just be a spot start for Henderson. However, he struck out nine while allowing three hits and a walk over six frames in his big-league debut April 20 at home against the Athletics, so if Henderson logs another strong start, perhaps he could stick around.

  • Brewers' Manuel Rodriguez: On minor-league IL

High-A Wisconsin placed Rodriguez on the 7-day injured list May 1 with an undisclosed injury.

The 19-year-old righty demonstrated advanced control before his injury, logging a 1.80 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB in 25 innings across his first five starts in the Midwest League. Rodriguez has decent secondary pitches, led by an above-average slider, but his fastball sits in the low 90s.

  • Brewers' Logan Henderson: Could draw start Wednesday

Henderson is a candidate to be called up from Triple-A Nashville to start Wednesday's game in Cleveland, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The Brewers optioned Tobias Myers to Nashville over the weekend and are pushing Jose Quintana (shoulder) back a few days in the pitching schedule, creating a need for a spot starter Wednesday. Henderson would be on five days' rest that day and was superb in a spot start last month in his major-league debut, tossing six innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts versus the Athletics on April 20. Since rejoining Nashville, Henderson has made three starts and has turned in a 1.69 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 16:1 K:BB in 16 innings.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Now slated to start Saturday

The Brewers are listing Quintana (shoulder) as their probable pitcher for Saturday's game against the Twins, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Initially, the team had planned to push Quintana back from Wednesday to Friday due to some soreness the lefty developed in his pitching shoulder after his last outing. However, it appears he'll receive an additional day of rest. Quintana will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, and assuming that goes well, he'll take the hill Saturday.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Yields four runs

Peralta (4-3) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over 5.1 innings Monday, striking out four and taking a loss against Cleveland.

Peralta delivered three scoreless frames before Gabriel Arias ripped a three-run double in the fourth inning. Kyle Manzardo later knocked Peralta out of the game with an RBI single in the sixth. Peralta made his first start since May 4 due to a minor groin issue and it's possible that was a lingering issue in Monday's disappointing outing. He now owns a 2.66 ERA with a 52:18 K:BB through 50.2 innings this season. Peralta is currently lined up to face the Orioles at home next week.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Plans to throw bullpen Wednesday

Quintana (shoulder) said Monday that he's feeling better and plans to throw a bullpen session Wednesday ahead of Friday's scheduled start versus the Twins, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports.

Quintana felt left shoulder soreness following his last outing against the Rays, which resulted in the Brewers pushing the southpaw's next scheduled start back from Wednesday to Friday. While the Brewers believe giving Quintana a couple extra days of rest will be enough for him to overcome the shoulder issue, the club won't officially clear him until he throws a bullpen session Wednesday and recovers well from it Thursday.

  • Brewers' Mike Boeve: Back in action for Biloxi

Boeve (shoulder) has gone 2-for-13 with a double, two walks and three runs in four games for Double-A Biloxi since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Boeve was shelved for the first month of the season while completing his recovery from the right labrum surgery he underwent last October, but he received the green light to rejoin Biloxi after making just one rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. He's been used exclusively as a designated hitter through his first five games this season, but Boeve is expected to eventually become an option at both corner-infield spots once he completes a throwing program.

  • Brewers' Ernesto Martinez: Back in action for Triple-A club

Martinez (thumb) rejoined the Triple-A Nashville lineup Thursday and has gone 1-for-10 with three walks, an RBI and a run over his last three games.

Though Nashville never placed him on the injured list, Martinez hadn't played since April 22 due to a right thumb injury before he made his return to action just over two weeks later. At 25, Martinez is an older prospect who is limited defensively to first base, but he's put himself on the radar for a potential late-season promotion to the Brewers by posting an .812 OPS while striking out at a manageable 18.9 percent clip over his 90 plate appearances thus far with Nashville.
