The defensive was a limited participant in practice Thursday and Friday. With Walker and Montez Sweat both suiting up after being listed as questionable, Chicago's defensive line has both of its starting ends for Week 1. Walker recorded 30 tackles, including 3.5 sacks, in 2023 during his first year with the team after signing a three-year deal.

After a second consecutive limited practice session Friday, Walker is officially listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. The Bears' defensive line could be thin in Week 1, as Montez Sweat (toe) and Darrell Taylor (foot) are also listed as questionable. Expect rookie Austin Booker to see more snaps on Chicago's defensive line with Walker, Sweat and Taylor all potentially missing Sunday's contest.

Bears' DeMarcus Walker: Possible improved situation
Walker recorded at least half a sack in three of Chicago's last four games in 2023 and will have a full season playing across from Montez Sweat.
During his first year with the Bears, Walker posted just 3.5 sacks. The pass rusher was coming off a breakout season with Tennessee in 2022 with 7.0 sacks. However, last year after the Week 13 bye, Walker recorded a partial sack in all but one game. That success likely had to do with Montez Sweat becoming a focal point of opposing offenses. It's possible Walker carries his late-season success into 2024.

Playing on the fourth team in his seven-year career, Walker logged a career-high 688 snaps, which was 258 more snaps than the next-highest total. From a productivity standpoint, the veteran defensive end totaled 30 tackles, including 3.5 sacks. Going into his age-29 season, Walker has two years remaining on his contract with the Bears. If he retains his role in the defense, Walker will be a low-ceiling IDP option.

The veteran defensive end popped up on Chicago's injury report Wednesday with a shin issue, but it seems as if he's already been able to move past it, as he was a full participant in Thursday's practice. Walker has had a solid season thus far, appearing in 14 games and logging 24 total tackles, including 2,0 sacks and an additional five tackles for loss.
