Kirk (calf) worked out on the side at Monday's practice, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
With Ricky Pearsall (knee, IR) out for the season, the 49ers also were without Mike Evans (quadriceps) and rookie second-round pick De'Zhaun Stribling (hamstring) on Monday, though both Stribling and Kirk appeared to be operating at at least three-quarters speed. Kirk now has missed a week of practice, but his activity level to begin this week indicates he's likely to mix back into drills in the near future.

49ers' Christian Kirk: Dealing with calf injury
Kirk sustained a calf injury during Sunday's practice and is not practicing Monday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Kirk walked off the field with trainers Sunday. Soft-tissue injuries are common during training camp, as players are ramping up to full speed and in pads after a long offseason. The severity of Kirk's calf strain isn't known, but consider him day-to-day. Kirk signed with the Niners in March and is expected to operate as the primary slot receiver alongside Mike Evans and Ricky Pearsall this season.

49ers' Christian Kirk: Walks off with trainer
Kirk walked off with an apparent injury during the 49ers' practice Sunday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Kirk was seen leaving with a team trainer midway through a practice session, though the nature of the issue is still unclear. The 29-year-old joined San Francisco on a one-year, $6 million deal in March after spending last season in Houston, where he logged 28 catches (on 52 targets) for 239 yards and one touchdown across 13 regular-season games. Kirk will likely open the 2026 campaign as the 49ers' No. 3 wide receiver behind Mike Evans and Ricky Pearsall, so it will be worth monitoring his status in the team's upcoming training-camp practices.

49ers' Christian Kirk: Joining forces with Niners
Kirk is slated to sign a one-year, $6 million contract with San Francisco, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Kirk, who is heading into his age-30 season, will join a 49ers wide receiver corps that also houses free-agent signee Mike Evans, plus incumbents Ricky Pearsall and Demarcus Robinson, where he presumably pencils in for the No. 3 role. Across 13 regular-season appearances with the Texans in 2025, Kirk was limited to just a 28-239-1 line on 52 targets, but he flashed down the stretch, combining for 10 catches for 164 yards and two scores (15 targets) during the team's two postseason games. Although he faces crowded competition for targets, with RB Christian McCaffrey and TE George Kittle (Achilles) also present, Kirk could prove productive while paired with QB Brock Purdy in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense, if a path to consistent opportunities materializes.
