Broncos' Cody Barton: Shines vs. Jets
Barton recorded 10 total tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Jets.
Barton stepped up and filled the role of the injured Alex Singleton (knee) during Sunday's win, posting double-digit stops en route to holding a high-powered Jets offense under 10 points. Without Singleton for the remainder of the year, Barton is expected to be the Broncos' top tackler and could become a valuable IDP piece moving forward.

Broncos' Cody Barton: Larger role with Singleton hurt
Barton is set to take over a three-down role after fellow Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton (knee) suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Sunday's 26-7 win over the Buccaneers.
Barton is also expected to take over relaying play calls to the rest of the defense, which was previously part of Singleton's responsibilities. Barton has 13 tackles (five solo) through three games, but he's well positioned to bolster his tackle totals moving forward.

Broncos' Cody Barton: Sees more snaps Week 2
Barton tallied seven tackles (three solo) in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Steelers.
Barton played just 21 defensive snaps in Week 1 against the Seahawks. He nearly doubled that total in Week 2 with 40 defensive snaps (along with 10 on special teams), and the 2019 third-round pick finished second on the Broncos in tackles Sunday behind fellow starting inside linebacker Alex Singleton. Barton has registered 100-plus tackles in each of the last two seasons, and he'll look to make it three years in a row as the Broncos travel to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers in Week 3.

Broncos' Cody Barton: Getting competition in camp
Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette relays that Barton is battling Jonas Griffith for the starting inside linebacker job alongside Alex Singleton.
Barton spent the first four years of his career in Seattle after the Seahawks drafted him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He joined the Commanders for 2023, and across 13 regular-season games he recorded 121 tackles (67 solo), one pass defended, one interception and one fumble recovery. Barton signed a one-year deal with the Broncos in March, and while he has more experience and reps than Griffith, the two linebackers are expected to compete for a starting role in Denver's defense in training camp and in preseason games.

Broncos' Cody Barton: Headed to Denver
Barton signed with the Broncos on Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The 2019 third-round pick out of Utah will be playing for his third team in three years after spending last season in Washington and the prior four seasons with Seattle. Barton missed four games while on IR with an ankle injury and registered 121 tackles (67 solo), one interception and one fumble recovery over 13 games in 2023. He could start alongside Alex Singleton at inside linebacker for the 2024 season, with Drew Sanders being direct competition for that spot.

Commanders' Cody Barton: Records 121 tackles
Barton recorded 121 tackles (67 solo) and one interception in 13 games during the 2023 season.
The 2019 third-round pick played 93.4 percent of Washington's defensive snaps when he was on the field after taking 77.4 percent of the snaps in a 17-game, 136-tackle campaign for Seattle the year prior. From a non-fantasy standpoint, Barton was mostly a special teams guy his first three professional seasons, and there's some chance he lands back in that type of role for 2024 after playing out 2023 on a one-year, $3.5 million contract. The defenses he played for the past two years both ranked near the bottom of the league in numerous statistical categories, with Barton landing 59th and 75th in PFF grade among qualified linebackers.
