Pierce (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills after logging a limited practice Friday.
Pierce practiced Friday for the first time since sustaining a strained hamstring in the middle of Week 2 prep, thus giving him a chance to bolster the Texans' Week 5 backfield depth, with Joe Mixon (ankle) still out. If Pierce does suit up this weekend, it remains to be seen how much work he'd be in line to see, with Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston having noted earlier Friday that Cam Akers has been preparing to start for the third consecutive contest.

Pierce (hamstring) was present for Friday's practice, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Pierce didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, but his appearance during the early stage of Friday's session offers hope that he could be available Sunday against the Bills. Meanwhile, fellow RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is trending toward not playing this weekend, so if Pierce ends up suiting up versus Buffalo, he'd bolster a Houston backfield that's been led by Cam Akers over the team's last two contests.

Pierce (hamstring) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Fellow RB Joe Mixon (ankle) also wasn't practicing for a second consecutive day, which clouds the duo's status as Sunday's game against the Bills approaches. If neither of them are available this weekend, Cam Akers once again would be in line to lead Houston's backfield, with Dare Ogunbowale, British Brooks and practice squad member J.J. Pierce was present at practice and wearing a jersey, but he didn't have his helmet and didn't end up participating in drills. Pierce, who didn't practice this week, thus is slated to miss his third straight game. Meanwhile, top back Joe Mixon (ankle) returned to a limited practice Friday and is questionable for the contest. Pierce's next chance to see game action will arrive Sunday, Oct. 6 against the Bills.

Joe Mixon is also not involved in Wednesday's practice after sitting out a Week 3 loss at Minnesota with an ankle injury. Pierce missed the past two games after injuring his hamstring during a Week 2 practice, and the continued absences suggest he's in danger of missing a third straight game Saturday against Jacksonville, though Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported earlier Wednesday that Pierce is expected back this week. Cam Akers filled in as the starter and lead runner in the 34-7 loss to Minnesota, but he didn't get any snaps on third downs or in the fourth quarter, with the negative game script having a major impact on his workload.
