Dolphins' Austin Jackson: Steps into leadership role
Jackson (knee) is the Dolphins' longest-tenured player along the offensive line following the retirement of Terron Armstead and is poised for a leadership role in 2025, in addition to his starting duties at right tackle, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports.
Jackson becomes the leader of a group introducing a new starter at right guard in James Daniels (Achilles), and relying on 2024 second-round pick Patrick Paul to develop into a starting-quality left tackle after a rough rookie year. With Jackson now healthy after having his 2024 campaign cut short due to a knee injury, Miami's chances of avoiding disastrously low quality O-line play rest in no small part on the right tackle's shoulders.

Dolphins' Patrick Paul: Replacing Armstead at LT
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that Paul "will be our starter at left tackle" following the retirement of Terron Armstead, Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald reports.
However, Grier also added that Paul will get "first crack" at the starting left tackle gig, suggesting that the team will hold a competition for the role during training camp. A 2024 second-round pick, Paul suited up for 17 regular-season games with Miami as a rookie, but looked less than ready for full-time duty in his three starts. At 6-foot-7, 231-pounds, he boasts all the physical tools and athleticism necessary to develop into a high-end option, and offensive line coach Butch Berry was modestly successful in helping Austin Jackson (knee) improve after his disastrous rookie season in 2020. Grier mentioned Larry Borom as a candidate to compete with Paul when training camp commences.

Dolphins' Jalen Ramsey: Time in Miami nearing end
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that after numerous conversations with Ramsey "we decided it was probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward [separately]", Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Miami has already paid out $4 million of the fully guaranteed $25.1 million that Ramsey is due in 2025 as a roster bonus, while $18.98 million of the remaining amount comes as a bonus due in Week 1 which can be spread across future seasons, making his contract relatively trade-friendly. Ramsey played all 17 regular-season games for the Dolphins in 2024 and remained a high-end starter, though failed to earn a Pro Bowl nod for the first time since his rookie year. There should be no shortage of teams interested in trading for Ramsey, though in the event that no deal can be worked out, Grier said "if he's here, we'll deal with it."

Dolphins' Tyreek Hill: Miami not pursuing trade
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that the team is not currently considering trading Hill (wrist), Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Grier noted that Hill, who is recovering from wrist surgery, has been present at team facilities during the early portion of the offseason and is working with new wide receivers coach Robert Prince, per David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. He dismissed the idea that team was actively looking to trade the veteran wideout by saying the organization would "consider it" for the unrealistic return of "two first-rounders," Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Things appeared fractured enough between Hill and Miami by the end of the 2024 season that a parting of ways seemed inevitable, but the 31-year-old has since made public efforts to mend fences. After surpassing 1,700 receiving yards in each of the prior two campaigns, Hill was limited to an 81-959-6 line across 17 regular-season appearances last year, enduring both a nagging wrist injury and quarterback difficulties.

Dolphins' Jalen Ramsey: Trade might be coming
Ramsey and the Dolphins are exploring options for a trade, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Ramsey signed a three-year extension in September, but the length was mostly a vehicle for short-term cap savings -- there's no guaranteed money beyond 2025. He does have a full guarantee for his $25.1 million in compensation this year, including a $4 million roster bonus the Dolphins already paid. Most of the money ($18.98 million) comes from an option bonus that's due Week 1 and spreads the cap burden to future seasons, making the 30-year-old cornerback a viable trade target for teams without much wiggle room under the 2025 cap. Multiple teams figure to be interested in a trade, considering Ramsey played all 17 games last season and earned PFF's No. 10 grade among CBs while recording 60 tackles, 11 pass defenses and two interceptions. He's still a high-quality starter on the perimeter or in the slot, and he has the necessary size and physicality to transition to safety toward the end of his career.
