Saints' D'Marco Jackson: Out Sunday
Jackson (calf) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Panthers, Jeff Nowak of Audacy Sports reports.
The Appalachian State product failed to participate in any practice this week due to a calf injury, so being ruled out for Week 1 comes as no surprise. With Jackson, Jaylan Ford (hamstring) and Nephi Sewell (knee) all sidelined Sunday, Anfernee Orji remains the only reserve inside linebacker on the Saints' roster.

Saints' Jaylan Ford: Won't play Sunday
Ford (hamstring) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Panthers, Jeff Nowak of Audacy Sports reports.
Ford missing New Orleans' Week 1 contest comes as no surprise given that the 22-year-old linebacker missed the entire week of practice due to a hamstring issue. Expect Anfernee Orji to serve as the Saints' top rotational inside linebacker in Ford's stead.

Saints' Khalen Saunders: Not playing Sunday
Saunders (calf) is ruled out for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Panthers, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Saunders hasn't practiced in any capacity since injuring his calf in New Orleans' Aug. 25 preseason finale. His next chance to suit up will come Week 2 on the road against the Cowboys. Khristian Boyd and Bryan Bresee will stand to see increased work solidifying the interior defensive line until Saunders is recovered.

Saints' Dallin Holker: Won't suit up Sunday
Holker (ankle) did not practice Friday and is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
Holker remains sidelined due to an ankle sprain suffered in mid-August. The undrafted rookie tight end is expected to handle a depth role when healthy. His next chance to play will come Week 2 on the road at Dallas.

Gay (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Panthers, Jeff Nowak of Audacy Sports reports.
Gay logged three limited practice sessions this week, so his status for Sunday could truly come down to the wire. If the 26-year-old were to miss any time, second-year pro Anfernee Orji would get a chance to step into a key role, especially with D'Marco Jackson (calf) and Jaylan Ford (hamstring) already both ruled out for Week 1.

Perry (hand) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Carolina, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Perry wasn't listed on the injury report Wednesday but then missed practice Thursday and Friday. It's unclear if his absence would significantly impact the Saints' plans on offense, as Cedrick Wilson may have been positioned for the No. 3 receiver role in any case. Perry (hand) didn't practice Friday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Perry was added to the injury report Thursday as a non-participant. The consecutive absences suggest he's in real danger of missing Sunday's game against the Panthers, in which case Cedrick Wilson, Bub Means and/or Mason Tipton could play more snaps than previously expected. Either way, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed remain runaway favorites to get the most snaps and targets.

Saunders (calf) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice.
Saunders was injured in New Orleans' Aug. 25 preseason finale and was given a timetable for recovery of a "couple weeks." Bryan Bresee and Khristian Boyd are next up for reps alongside Nathan Shepherd if Saunders is unable to play against Carolina this Sunday.

Lattimore was limited Wednesday, but his full session Thursday puts him on track for Sunday's Week 1 date with Carolina. Lattimore should see plenty of Diontae Johnson in the divisional tilt.

Perry didn't practice Thursday due to a hand injury, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Perry is making a sudden appearance on the Saints' Week 1 practice report, making his status worthwhile to follow in advance of the weekend. Ultimately, his listing on Friday's report will give a sense of his potential to play Sunday against the Panthers. Perry put together an impressive preseason, leading the entire NFL with 176 receiving yards and putting himself in a position to be a regular wide receiver in New Orleans' offense in 2024.
