  • Buccaneers' Calijah Kancey: Won't play Week 1

Kancery has been ruled out of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Commanders due to a calf injury, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

Kancey popped up on the Bucs' injury report Friday with a calf issue, and it appears serious enough for the 2023 first-round pick to be held out for Week 1. His next chance to suit up will be against the Lions on Sept. 15. With Logan Hall (foot) also ruled out for the regular-season opener, William Gholston and Ben Stille will start at defensive end, with Vita Vea starting at nose tackle.

  • Buccaneers' Calijah Kancey: Could miss Week 1

Kancey (calf) was added to the Buccaneers' injury report Friday and is now questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Commanders, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 2023 first-round pick was a limited participant in Friday's practice due to a calf injury, and he's now in jeopardy of missing Tampa Bay's regular-season opener. If Kancey is unable to suit up Sunday, expect Ben Stille or William Gholston to serve as the Buccaneers' top left defensive end.

  • Buccaneers' Trey Palmer: Listed as questionable

Palmer (concussion) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Washington.

Full practice participation Wednesday through Friday suggests Palmer is more likely than not to play, but being in the concussion protocol means it isn't quite the same guarantee as with other injuries. In any case, he's expected to drop from third to fourth on the depth chart at wide receiver, having been usurped by rookie third-round pick Jalen McMillan this summer.

  • Buccaneers' Logan Hall: Sitting out season opener

Hall (foot) won't play Sunday against the Commanders, per coach Todd Bowles, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

William Gholston is set to take on a larger role in Hall's absence. Hall's next chance to make his 2024 regular-season debut will come Week 2 against the Lions.

  • Buccaneers' Earnest Brown: Lands on IR with rib injury

The Buccaneers placed Brown on the reserve/injured list Thursday due to a rib injury, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Brown will now be forced to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. The earliest that the 2021 fifth-round pick can return would be Week 5 against the Falcons.

  • Buccaneers' Chase McLaughlin: Back to full practice

McLaughlin (abdomen) returned to a full practice Thursday.

McLaughlin should be good to go for Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Commanders. The 28-year-old kicker made a career-best 93.5 percent of his field goal attempts last season, going 29 of 31 while making all 33 of his extra points. The big year earned McLaughlin a three-year, $12.3 million deal in the offseason.

  • Buccaneers' Christian Izien: Absent from injury report

Izien (leg) was not listed on the Buccaneers' injury report Wednesday.

Izien had been dealing with a leg injury towards the tail end of training camp, but he appears to be fully healthy ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Commanders. Izien finished 2023 with 65 tackles (47 solo), two passes defended, two interceptions and one forced fumble across 17 regular-season games.

  • Buccaneers' Trey Palmer: Another full practice Thursday

Palmer (concussion) was a full practice participant Thursday.

As he was Wednesday, Palmer did enough on the practice field to be listed as full one day later, but there's been no indication from the Buccaneers that he's cleared the concussion protocol, which he's been in since at least Aug. 23. The team can shed any questions about his status Friday by not giving him a designation ahead Sunday's game against the Commanders, which would put him in the mix for targets along with Jalen McMillan behind starting wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
